From the Donor:

Pauline MacNeal of Montrose

In 2008 the Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce established the Pauline MacNeal Memorial Scholarship to assist students from the high schools in Susquehanna County, as well as home schooled or cyber schooled students who would enter college to major in business administration or a related field. The scholarship was named in honor of Mrs. MacNeal, one of the chamber’s most vital and dedicated members.

Pauline was a woman of determination, strength, and foresight. Despite a handicap, because of an auto accident, she was involved in many community organizations including the Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. MacNeal was the driving force that helped the chamber grow. In the early years, she would call every member to remind him or her of an upcoming meeting. Her foresight helped the chamber grow and become an organization dedicated to improving the community.

In addition to the Chamber of Commerce, Pauline was active in the Republican Party and hosted many events at her home. She was the President of the Montrose Business and Professional Woman’s Club (which also maintains a college scholarship with The Community Foundation) from 1980 through 1982, running the club’s meetings from her hospital bed.

Pauline was instrumental in the start of the Susquehanna County Literacy Council. The first meetings were held in her home where she housed the initial supply of books in her bookcase. She was the “idea” person, many times raising money by pitting the Republican members against the Democratic members.
