Food Pantry Establishes Endowment

The Montrose Mobile Food Pantry has recently established an endowment with The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains to help with the expenses of providing groceries to local families enduring food insecurity.  The endowment is intended to provide financial grants to the Food Pantry when a shortfall of donated food and household items is experienced.  The food pantry, currently located at the South Montrose Community Church, has existed since 2016 when its volunteers worked out of the Montrose United Methodist Church and provided food for 75 families.  The number of families served has increased dramatically over the years to approximately 250 each month, indicating a strong need for such assistance in our region.  The Food Pantry provides its services on the 2nd Friday of every month from 11:30 to 3:00 regardless of weather conditions, and additional volunteers to help with the food distribution are always welcomed.

This new endowment joins the Jo Ann Warner Leonard Montrose Mobile Food Pantry Memorial Endowment at The Community Foundation that also provides assistance to the Food Pantry.  Mrs. Leonard was instrumental in establishing and running the Food Pantry in its early days and the endowment in her memory is intended to carry on her legacy of caring and assistance for those in need.  Both of these endowments for the Montrose Mobile Food Pantry welcome additional donations at any time to help enhance their value and augment their granting ability so that local families may continue to be less vulnerable to food shortages.  Donations can be sent to The Community Foundation at 270 Lake Avenue, Montrose, PA 18801 or made online at www.community-foundation.org.
